What achievements are for#
In Santolingo you learn a language with the Bible. Achievements record what you have learned and what you have done in the app. They are not points to spend or a scoreboard.
That is why there is no currency here, nothing to buy and nothing left to chance. You earn every achievement by what you do.
Three questions#
Each achievement answers a question you might ask yourself:
- Where have I walked? Seals mark the sections and chapters you have finished.
- How have I been walking? Badges mark your consistency: days in a row, the Listen step in several lessons in a row, a lesson with no mistakes, every review of the day done, a commitment kept, coming back to your studies.
- What have I learned? Treasures of Faith mark what you have learned: a verse you know by heart, a set of words at Practiced, a section with every word at Consolidated.
What you earn by studying and what takes effort#
You earn seals and badges by doing lessons and devotionals. You don't need to do anything else.
Treasures of Faith ask for more: building a section's verse from memory, bringing every word in a set to Practiced and doing your reviews until they reach Consolidated. They are rare on purpose, and each one has its own ceremony when you earn it.
The Treasures of Faith#
There are two kinds of Treasure:
- Engraved plaques. Each section has a verse. Build it from memory to earn the section's plaque, with the verse engraved, the chapter's color, the plaque's number in your collection and the date.
- Objects. Each set of words on one theme has an object from the Bible story: the Harp of David, the Staff of Moses, the Cloak of Ruth, the Net of Peter and others. Bring every word in the set to Practiced to earn the object.
Treasures also have levels, in the same language as the cards: Core, Story and Legendary. Bring every word to Consolidated to raise the Treasure a level; at the last level, it turns to gold. A Treasure never loses a level it has earned.
Easy, medium and hard#
Every achievement has a band: easy, medium or hard. The band tells how far it is; it never blocks anything.
- Easy: each kind of step on the trail has an object, which you earn the first time you do that step. The Bag of Seeds comes in your very first lesson.
- Medium: each section's plaque and each theme's object. The object lives in one section of the trail; when you finish that section, it is yours.
- Hard: gold. A Treasure turns to gold when you repeat the step many times or when the words reach Consolidated.
In the Achievements tab#
The tab follows the three questions: at the top, what you have learned; then, how you have been walking; last, where you have walked. The Treasures of your current chapter appear in silhouette, with their name and what to do to earn them.
Days in a row and your collection#
A day with no lesson and no devotional resets your count of days in a row. Your collection stays whole. When you come back to your studies after a break, you earn the New Beginning badge.
What we don't do#
- There is no currency and no rewards shop. No Treasure is for sale.
- There are no draws and no mystery boxes. You earn every achievement by what you do.
- There are no countdowns and no "last chance" to earn a Treasure.
- Your Treasures are yours alone: they can't be traded or compared.
